Umbrella to stay.

This umbrella is not to go, it’s to stay!
‘’Umbrella to stay’’ is a camping tent. This foldable space is very light to transport and very easy to set up and also to pack. My work process started with a brainstorming. It has moved me to deal with various types of emergencies such as natural disasters or crisis situations. Those affected often suffer from a lack of housing. The idea of creating a purposeful space for such cases made me very excited. After all the different ideas and considerations, I ended up with the inspire principle of the umbrella. What fascinates me about an umbrella is how it works, which makes it possible to quickly create a large area through a simple movement. That's how I came up with my tent idea: Umbrella

When creating my product, I put the greatest emphasis on two features: Mobility and easy and fast to use. The product should be light to transport and quick and easy to assemble and disassemble. It works like an umbrella, but it creates a big room to be in and sleep in, the principle of an umbrella to create a space as a tent. I started my project by working on the construction of the tent and creating some ideas for possible structural models. After all the different ideas I built a model with four legs to learn the umbrella system. It was important to push this design in the desired direction in order to find a suitable form for building space. At the same time, it should not lose the function of fast foldability. The legs of the model consisted of thin rods.

For the appropriate folding function I had found the right joint to bring the angle between the folding bars to the smallest possible distance. Therefore I tried different 3D-printed joints. Another part of my job was to develop a better opening and closing system for the model's legs.

After finding a suitable joint for the legs and a suitable system for the folding function, the structure had to have a harmonious shape. I should set the right length of the bars to make the desired space. With my following model, I have succeeded in this intention.

The new construction allowed a quick opening by a simple movement and the given shape generated enough room to lie or sleep in it. For this construction I have selected 8 mm aluminum tube. For the material, I have taken the waterproof nylon fabric to cover the structure. This fabric is not only very light in weight, it is also very durable and good against windbreak.

This finished product can create very quickly just in a few seconds a large area by a simple movement. Its space is enough for three people to sit down or lie down. You can pack it again in just a few seconds. It is very light to carry and very fast to make a space. This tent is very easy to set up and also to pack.
